M21 Community Studios
at HKFYG Youth SPOTs near you |

Digital entertainment is an integral part of life for young people today. Following in their footsteps, six M21 Community Studios have been set up in HKFYG Youth SPOTs* where young people are producing short films on community concerns.
The concept behind the studios is to encourage youth to contribute via familiar gateways to multimedia technologies. The Community Studios also serve as platform where they can turn ideas into reality with high-tech equipment. Ten production teams will be making fifty short videos in the coming months.
Media education is one of the goals and over 50 training programmes and activities at the studios will include interviewing, filming, recording studio and editing. Partnerships with 15 local schools and other organizations encourage participation and professionals from the film-making industry offer advice and guidance.
All the videos will be shown on the Community Channel at m21.hk.

Hong Kong team is Champion at Odyssey of the Mind 2014 World Finals
The 6 Hong Kong teams in the US for the 2014 World Finals at Iowa State University competed with 836 teams from around the world in late May. Encouraging results were achieved, with Buddhist Wong Wan Tin College crowned as World Champion in the Technical Problem. Division II. For full details of results click here. Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2014 winners
announced on 31 May
This annual competition is organized by HKFYG, the Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Science Museum, sponsored by the Innovation and Technology Commission and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. At the finals last Saturday, champions of the Invention and Investigation groups in both Junior and Senior Divisions were announced. Congratulations go to Hong Kong Chinese Women's Club College (Junior Invention), Sacred Heart Canossian College (Junior Investigation), Sing Yin Secondary School (Senior Invention) and St. Paul's Convent School (Senior Investigation). Hang Seng Bank wins mainland CIPRA award for our Hang Seng Bank Leaders to Leaders lecture series
The Hang Seng Bank has won the "第十一屆中國最佳公共關係案例大賽- 企業社會責任類- 金獎" [11th China Golden Awards for Excellence in Public Relations], organized by the China International Public Relations Association (CIPRA). This is the most respected public relations competition on the mainland. It recognizes enterprises which demonstrate excellence in CSR. Ten thousand Xu Beihong horses full steam ahead
2014 marks the Year of the Horse and in celebration HKFYG and the Xu Beihong Art Committee are jointly organizing the 5th Xu Beihong Cup International Youth Children's Art Competition. Hong Kong schools are invited to take part by decorating model horses. The free cardboard 3-D replicas of a galloping horse originally depicted by Xu Beihong are being decorated creatively in suitable colours and patterns. The event will culminate with the presentation and animation of 10,000 decorated models. There will be an associated art installation exhibition from 17-21 October, at Olympian City where the Opening Ceremony takes place on Saturday 18 October. Media Counselling Centre offers training in counselling information production
The HKFYG Media Counselling Centre is running a broadcaster training scheme on 14 and 21 June, 7-10pm. This is in preparation for volunteers who will help producing counselling stories/information for adolescents from July-October this year for about 4 hours every two weeks. Training includes basic counselling information production techniques, basic concepts of broadcast stories, use of voice and presentation skills. Share Music, Share Love 2014 Music With U Singing Contest
for secondary students
The Tsuen Wan District Council of Social Services and Community Information Committee and HKFYG Tsuen Wan Youth SPOT are organizing this secondary school contest jointly. The theme is Share Music, Share Love and contestants are encouraged to share a message of caring for others and being positive about life. Applications are welcome from all young people at secondary school. Songs can be original or cover versions. Initial judging on 13 July and semi-finals on 13 July at Tsuen Wan Youth SPOT Finals on 31 August at Tsuen Wan Indoor Sport Centre. Deadline for enrollment 30 June. Exquisite Chinese ceramics, jade and jadeite, jewellery and fine wine, will be available for charity auction, courtesy of Lisa's Collection on Sunday 15 June, from 10am on 5/F, HKFYG Building, 21 Pak Fuk Road, North Point. The preview is the day before. Premiums received will fund our services for Hong Kong's young people. Some of them will participate as volunteers at the auction. 6 new entrepreneurial businesses supported by Youth Business Hong Kong
A dozen young people have seed funding to start up six new businesses this year from the Federation's YBHK (Youth Business Hong Kong) scheme. YBHK will offer them comprehensive support including interest-free startup loans totalling HK$370,000, mentorship and business support. The deadline for the next round applications is 15 July 2014. YBHK welcomes young people aged 18-35 with a viable business idea for launching a start-up within a year and those who have been running their business for up to 3 years. Career Seminars on Hope for Success sponsored by Prudence Foundation and co-organized by Prudential Hong Kong Ltd and HKFYG's Youth Employment Network
On 17 May and 24 May 2014, 4 seminars on careers were co-organized by HKFYG's Youth Employment Network and Prudential Hong Kong Ltd with sponsorship from the Prudence Foundation. 12 guest speakers from a wide variety of backgrounds included a customer service director, news anchor, architect, solicitor, film director, actor, editor, Chinese physician, medical device consultant, magician, photographer and comic artist. The seminars are followed by an Essay Competition, an Experience-Sharing Session and a Presentation. 50 winners will get special awards amounting to HK$500,000 to help them plan their own careers.

RECRUITING NOW! Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme 2014/15
The Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme has been jointly organized by the Tourism Commission and HKFYG, since 2001. It has support from the Hong Kong Association for Customer Service Excellence as a co-organizer. The Scheme is now recruiting 2014-15 participants. Selected candidates will have training this summer for service as Young Ambassadors who promote Hong Kong tourism. The scheme's objective is to increase participants' sense of belonging and enhance appreciation of hospitality and service excellence. The training programme runs from 18 July-29 August. Federation Study on Facilitation of Youth Participation
in Creative Industries: YS51
The HKFYG Youth Research Centre has just released findings of this study based on 520 responses from 18-34 year-olds. A third said that they were interested in working in the creative industries sector. However, respondents in general were not optimistic about their prospects, rating them at an average of 5.62 points out of 10. 19 stakeholders were interviewed about their views on the development of creative industries and youth engagement in the industries, including experts, scholars, youth and experienced practitioners. The study also compared development strategies of industries in this sector in Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan. |
