Young people who use their creativity to express opinions on social issues find inspiration from well-known artists who share their concerns. A forthcoming dialogue with Oscar-winning director, Ruby Yang provides young film-makers with a wonderful, not-to-be-missed opportunity.
Next week at M21, Ms Yang will talk about documentary film-making skills including creating successful story lines and writing convincing, powerful scripts. Born in Hong Kong, Ms Yang has mentored aspiring film-makers in the past. "The biggest challenge is always money," she says, but, "the priority is to get the camera rolling. If you really love it, I am sure you'd find your way to do it."* Her sharing session, in uCinema, on Friday 2 May from 5-6.30 pm, is co-organized by M21 and The Dragon Foundation.

Six winning teams go forward to World Finals in Iowa after success at Hong Kong Odyssey of the Mind 2014 Local Competitions
Well done to all the winners at the annual Hong Kong Odyssey of the Mind Competitions on 12-13 April. There were 6 winning teams. 2 represented Buddhist Wong Wan Tin College and the others were from Po Leung Kuk Centenary Li Shiu Chung Memorial College, Queen's College, S.T.F.A. Lee Shau Kee College and St Stephen's Girls' Primary School. In May they will compete with top-finishers from around the world at the World Finals in Iowa. The local event had support from venue sponsors, Hong Kong Design Institute and Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Lee Wai Lee) in Tseung Kwan O. The Officiating Guest at the opening ceremony in the VTC Auditorium was Dr Clement Chen cheng-jen, SBS, JP, Chairman, Vocational Training Council. China Week rail journeys: youth teams explore China's development by train
Registration is open from now until 7 May for HKFYG's 2014 China Week. 18-29 year olds are invited to form teams of 3-6 persons for sponsored train journeys of 4-10 days from 24 May to 14 June this year. About 50 teams will be free to choose routes and destinations for experiential learning tours. They will enjoy subsidised, back-packer style travel for carefully planned and budgeted trips, focusing on how China's development, culture and modern history have relied upon its rail network. Bookcase Library Program partnered by Bring Me a Book Hong Kong and sponsored by Hyatt International launched at HKFYG kindergarten
The HKFYG Ching Lok Kindergarten/Nursery recently joined The Bookcase Library Program organized by Bring Me a Book Hong Kong. A launch ceremony took place at the school on 10 April when the organizer, represented by Mrs Jacqueline Sun, donated a selection of books. Ms Sharon White was present as representative of the sponsor, Hyatt International Hong Kong Ltd, and over 30 volunteers from Hyatt hotels came to read to the children. The aim is to enhance pupils' reading experience and motivation to read while increasing the kindergarten's reading resources, and raising parents' awareness of the importance of reading with children. Registration NOW OPEN for the best international summer schools in town at HKU and HKUST
HKFYG has partnered 2 world-class universities, The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), this year to offer its popular international Summer Schools for Effective Leadership this year. Grants and scholarships of up to HK$8,800 are available for eligible students. For local residents, the deadline for applications will be 23 May for HKUST and 30 May for HKU. Disney Friends for Change: Youth Grant Launch Ceremony and Neighbourhood First Volunteering Award Presentation
On April 13, at the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, the Disney Friends for Change Youth Grant Launch Ceremony and HKFYG's Neighbourhood First Volunteering Award Presentation celebrated 50 winning proposals from 12-25 year-olds. They have funding of up to HK$8,000 each for projects that make a lasting, positive impact and build social capital within their community. Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and Youth Service America are partnering the Disney programme. Neighbourhood First, a youth-led project focusing on leadership training and voluntary work in neighbourhoods throughout Hong Kong, is financed by the Community Investment & Inclusion Fund.
