Meeting the youth and an unexpected feast
We headed towards the first village to carry out a Youth Empowerment Project (YEP). The village is an hour ride on Tuk-tuk from the town.
We were surprised by the unexpectedly friendly youth, they are all students of the school in the village. They were very keen on the project and we had a joyful discussion via our translator. Although we were unable to understand Khmer and could only talk via our translator, we could feel the excitement of the youth joining the programme. It was the first day of the programme and we spent the whole day discussing problems in the village and drafting solutions with them.
On a dusty, busy road it is hard to imagine anything can happen except the ongoing traffic, food seems to be miles away. We were on our way back to the city, when this not-so-eye-catching stall caught our attention.
The thirst quenching watermelons were the star of the day, juicy and sweet, the melons provided an excellent source for all of us to cool down and relax after a day of hard work.
