| Brushing colour into the community |
|
Every painting is a series of brush strokes, each of which adds colour and definition to the canvas. These added strokes could be compared to the dedication and commitment of young people whose enthusiasm and passion collectively brush colour into the community through individual acts of service.
The Hong Kong Youth Service Award is being established by HKFYG to honour, acclaim and encourage five outstanding young people each year, with a HK$20,000 cash prize, a trophy and a certificate. Their commitment, dedication and integrity will exemplify the true spirit of service to the community, thereby giving encouragement to a new generation of young people who are equally committed to serving others.
The award will be made to those whose service goes beyond individual achievement. It will recognize youth who exemplify the core values of service and publicly encourage them to become role models, particularly to their peers. Award winners will be invited to share their experience through video shorts and other broadcasts and inspire others to follow in their footsteps.
Young people aged 18-35 with an outstanding track record of community service are encouraged to seek nomination. The Hon. Ronald Arculli, GBM, CVO, GBS, OBE, JP, Senior Partner, King & Wood Mallesons, will chair the Selection Panel. Nominators and candidates should apply together, with details of exemplary core values of service and commitment to Hong Kong. Evidence of the measurable impact of service on community need, of potential leadership skills and competencies, and abilities to be a role model for others to be included.

Cultural Heritage Ambassador Programme (CHAP) with University of Hong Kong
The aim of CHAP, a programme jointly organized by HKFYG and The University of Hong Kong, which runs until January 2014, is to use the Former Fanling Magistracy as a focal point of interest for cultural heritage and heritage conversation in Northern District. Young participants are involved in revitalizing the building while receiving 60 hours of training and intensive experiential learning experiences, with workshops, thematic seminars, excursions and field visits. Hong Kong 200 Leadership Project in Guangdong Province funded by Commission on Youth
HKFYG's Hong Kong 200 Leadership Project on the mainland this summer will take place from 4-8 August. It is supported by the Commission on Youth and the focus will be the economic and social transformation of Guangdong Province. Approximately 180 participating students will have the experience of teaching migrant workers' children in Guangzhou City, meeting local young people and visiting heritage sites. The Dragon Foundation's Global Citizens Programme 2013
on Social Media in Action
With the generous support of the Victor and William Fung Foundation Ltd and the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation, the ninth Global Citizens Programme took 30 local Chinese undergraduates to San Francisco from 9-19 June. There were lectures, panel discussions and talks on the theme of Social Media in Action at Stanford University, plus visits to LinkedIn, Google and Tencent offices in the Bay Area. The students developed 4 social innovation project ideas on voluntary service opportunities, corporate social responsibility, social inclusion of parents and children, and social media for positive social change. On 16 July, a report session was held with commentators. They included Prof Paul Cheung, Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, HKU, Mr Rainer Sip, Founder & Director of Baby Kingdom, Mr Cliff Choi, Hong Kong Council of Social Service, Ms Constance Mak, Registered Nurse and Clinical Consultant, and Ms Anna Lau, HKFYG Youth Volunteer Network. Love Summer Live Snap capturing the best of Hong Kong on film
This new programme, sponsored by Love Ideas ♥ Hong Kong gives young people the chance to capture the best of Hong Kong on film and to share their images with families, friends and the wider community. It is designed for 14-24 year-olds and takes place on 2-3, 9 and 24 August at the HKFYG Jockey Club Wang Tau Hom Youth SPOT, in Central and Sheung Wan, and with an overnight stay at the Lamma Island HKFYG Youth Camp. Sir Robert Black Trust Fund sponsors student leadership exchange trip to Australia
This programme in Adelaide, called Leadership Training and Self-enhancement, is being organized by the HKFYG Youth Exchange Unit. The Sir Robert Black Trust Fund is sponsoring 20 junior secondary students and 2 staff members for the 11 day trip from 4-24 August. The programme includes visits to local schools, youth organizations and the Australian parliament, as well as community service with the elderly, training in team-building and problem solving skills. Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme 2013-14: passing the torch of hospitality
The Appointment and Awards Ceremony of the Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme 2013/14 takes place on 14 August in the Auditorium, HKFYG Building. Dr Peter Lam, Chairman of Hong Kong Tourism Board, Mr Philip Yung, JP, Commissioner for Tourism and Ms Cally Chan, Vice Chairman of Hong Kong Association for Customer Service Excellence will be among the officiating guests. Outstanding Young Ambassadors will receive awards and the new batch will be appointed with the mission of passing the torch of hospitality among the local community and overseas. The Scheme is organized jointly by the Tourism Commission and HKFYG, with collaboration from the Hong Kong Association for Customer Service Excellence. Youth Trends in Hong Kong 2013 with Indicators of Youth Values
This compilation of statistical data and survey findings by HKFYG's Youth Research Centre is organized in 7 sections: population and family, education, financial independence, information and communication technology, participation and engagement, physical and mental health and abnormal or deviant behaviour. Each section is followed by conclusions based on the data reported. Youth Trends in Hong Kong 2013 also contains Indicators of Youth Values, the eleventh edition since the series began in 1997. These snapshots of youth in Hong Kong include observations on changing values. A concluding chapter gives recommendations for youth workers, educators and the government officials.
